Rodents

Rats can be very persistent even gnawing through metal to get in, and if they do gain access into your premises they can spread diseases, cause damage and fire risk (through gnawing of electrical cables) and contaminate food. Rats can cause other problems, so it’s vital to eliminate a rat infestation quickly .
Rats are most active during the night therefore it is often easier to spot the signs of a rat infestation than the actual rat itself.

Signs of a rat infestation to look out for
-
Rub Marks - Grease and dirt on their bodies leaves smudges on surfaces.
-
Rat Droppings - Rat droppings are dark brown
-
Scratching Noises - Rats are agile climbers and often found in lofts, you might hear scratching noises at night.
-
Rat Holes - Rats are well known for digging extensive burrow systems for shelter, food storage and nesting.
-
Rat Nests - Rats will shred available materials such as loft insulation, cardboard and other soft items to make nests.
-
Footprints - Rats leave foot and tail marks in dusty, less-used areas of buildings.
Mice are nocturnal creatures, preferring to keep hidden during the day and search for food from dusk till dawn. Here are some common signs of mouse activity you can look for in your property.
-
Droppings - Mice droppings are small and dark (approx. 3 - 8 mm in length), scattered randomly.
-
Grease marks - Caused by their bodies brushing against walls, floors and skirting on regular routes, dark smears around holes or around corners.
-
Scratching noises - Often at night when mice are most active. Listen for noises between partition walls, under floorboards, in false ceilings, basements and lofts.
-
Nests - Using easy to shred materials, mice then line the nest with other soft materials.
-
Tracks footprints - Dusty environments such as unused lofts and basements can show up rodent tracks and tail marks.
-
Strong smell - Mice urinate frequently and their wee has a strong ammonia-like smell. The stronger the smell the closer you are to mice activity. This smell can linger for a long time (even after an infestation has been removed).
If you have heard scratching noises or spotted any of the signs mentioned above, we recommend
acting quickly to ensure the potential infestation doesn’t spread any further.
